Employment in Pittsburgh’s Northside

Pittsburgh's Northside is a collection of contigious neighborhoods that was previously the City of Allegheny that was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907. The former city residents worked in factories, specifically the 20 acre Allis-Chalmers transformer factory that provided almost 3,000 jobs from 1897 to 1975 when they closed down. As many factories closed in Pittsburgh new employers sprung in their place  over the years.
