Elm Street Program

In 2005, Historic Deutschtown became one of five citywide districts to be included in the state’s new Elm Street program.  The Elm Street program aims to revitalize residential areas that are adjacent to local business districts. Elm Street is the residential counterpart to the Main Street program.

Elm Street is a five-year program that grants access to annual reinvestment funding through Pittsburgh's Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development.  The program addresses community revitalization through a five point strategy – 'Safe, Clean and Green', Design, Neighbors and Economy, Image and Identity, and Sustainable Organizations.

A few initiatives under the Elm Street program include the Historic Deutschtown Facade Improvement Program, the planting of new street trees, annual clean-ups, installation of trash cans, and new gateway signage including a mural and sculpture piece.
