German Beginnings Troy Hill was settled in the mid-1800s by German
immigrants who worked in the mills, tanneries and breweries, and on the
railroads along the Allegheny River. In the early days, a narrow brick
road led up to the working class homes and vineyards spilled over the
hillsides, reminiscent of Germany's Rhine Valley.
