Northside Health Improvement Partnership
The Northside Health Improvement Partnership (NSHIP)
is a collaborative effort whose creation was facilitated by Allegheny
General Hospital (AGH) and the Northside Leadership Conference (NSLC).
The mission of the NSHIP is to improve the health of Northside residents.
Members of the NSHIP will accomplish this mission through:
- Completing formal Community Needs Assessments
- Developing community-based strategic alliances
- Providing health awareness, community education, and other health promotion programs
- Developing funding strategies for NSHIP sponsored health programs
In 2001, a community assessment was completed to
identify specific community health priorities for Northside residents.
The assessment inquired about five health indicators: child abuse and
safety, nutrition and physical activity, responsible sexual behavior,
access to health care and tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Northside
residents identified nutrition and physical activity and tobacco, alcohol
and other drugs as their top issues of concern. In response to these
concerns the NSHIP has developed strategies to raise awareness and promote
community engagement in the identified areas.
